Leadership in 2010

It seems that as each new, year begins to unfold, it carries a theme. My theme for 2010 is leadership. I truly believe that a big part of God's purpose for me in this year is to hone and sharpen my leadership.

To that end I am reading some great stuff on the subject and came across the following. In Dan Allender's book, "Leading with a Limp", he writes about counting the cost of leadership which includes six realities: crisis, complexity, betrayal, loneliness, weariness and glory. I invite you to consider this quote:

"God pours out enough of His presence to keep us hooked. And God allures us to the point we want to know how the next episode of the story will turn out. God is playing out His plot, and reluctant and limping servants, while being humbled as leaders, are lifted up to see His glory."

It would be wonderful to get some discussion going around the subject of leadership in 2010. Feel free to comment.

  1. Does God really poor out just enough of his presence to keep us hooked? Or do we seek him within our comfort zone? If we find him in our comfort zone, are we then satisfied (just enough) so that we feel we don't have to keep searching? Maybe we got the reassurance, "yes He is still with me. Good, I'll keep going." Then we go back to doing it our way, not necessarily His way. Then things get too complicated or too uncomfortable and we seek Him (just enough) again, maybe asking Him to fix it. How often do we step out of our comfort zone to seek God? Do we find Him within our comfort zone or outside our comfort zone? Is this issue really about who is in control of our destiny?

  2. Cindy, Some thoughts have come to me yesterday and today about my leadership. I can be so scared that I am not listening well to God. I can feel so much less spiritual than others. I can so easily feel like Isaiah 40:27: "My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God." Probably I really feel that my way is hidden from my denomination; my cause is disregarded by many, if not most, Christian acquaintences. Then...I realize I am serving the Lord who has no equal, who created the heavens, has the stars named, does not get tired, is everlasting...and my hope is in Him. So I can keep on running (literally--ha!) and trust God to meet me, supply all I need, and bring people to Himself. My bottom line is "I want people to know Jesus!!!!"
